When Laminate Works, Inc. in Kansas City, Kansas wanted to expand to Dallas, Texas, PerAspera Consulting, LLC worked with them to establish a Wide Area Network solution that would allow for file transfer, Internet access, email, and voice-over-IP (VoIP) communication between the two offices.

Both performance and budget were important concerns, so PerAspera identified a solution that would support production at a reasonable cost.

While price-considerations make a Virtual Private Network (VPN) over the public Internet a popular approach in many similar situations, this did not offer the level of reliability required in this particular case. The needs at Lamainte Works called for a more traditional, and more consistently stable, solution.

Ultimately, the decision was made to move forward with a T1 connection between KC and Dallas, with Cisco routers on each end providing Quality of Service (QoS) management to maximize the fidelitiy of the VoIP calls between offices.

Bandwidth over a WAN connection will always be a concern, and VoIP on a shared data connection cannot match the highest levels of voice-quality available on a dedcated land-line. The shared connection, however, did meet the fundamental requirements of file transfer, Internet access, VoIP, etc., at an acceptable price-point.

The current solution also placed Laminate Works in a position where additional bandwidth could be added at a later time, should the company decide to split the data connection and the VoIP connection.

PerAspera has worked with Laminate Works since 2007. We are pleased to share some of what Laminate Works president Bert Clothier had to say about our relationship:

"I wanted to take just a moment to thank you and your team for the excellent service you have been providing for us at Laminate Works. When a company is as busy as ours, it is easy to let the urgent need int he moment usurp the time that could have been spent on an encouraging work.

I asked some of our folks who work most closely with you and your team to give me some insight into their working relationship with you. Following are some of the comments I received.

"Brian is really easy to get in touch with, and his response time to our requests is great."

"They are really easy to work with - very personable. They listen to what we are asking for, and don't make assumptions. They aslo respond very quickly."

"Their knowledge base of all their systems is excellent."

So, thank Brian. The bottom line is that the work we all do - and life itself - ultimately comes down to relationships, and we value our relationship with you."
