"When you swap business cards at these events," says Groves, "take several seconds to write down...what you talked about, and whether the person is interested in receiving your marketing emails...Immediately following the event, send a follow-up email...and remind them that they will be receiving your valuable emails going forward."
Groves also suggests leveraging your network by creating strategic alliances with complementary businesses: "You can work together to promote each other's email lists to your customers."
