Hard Limits In a Wireless World?

The announcement of a new protocol by Aspera (no connection with PerAspera Consulting, LLC,) to boost data transfer speeds on wireless networks highlights an issue that will become ever more important as the world becomes ever more wireless--what are the limitations of a wireless Internet?
The Aspera solution addresses a problem with one of the fundamental Internet protocols, which were simply not designed with a wireless infrastructure in mind. By solving one problem, however, Aspera will exacerbate another. Enabling faster transfers will encourage people to use this new capability, which will increase the load on the underlying network hardware.
